The Call of Music

Wow I was about to do a very similar picture with my piano!

One aspect of the photo that stands out is the straight lines of the piano keys. These lines make your eyes scroll from the bottom of the photo to the top. Also prominent is the lighting; there is more light on the front keys and more shadow on the back keys to add depth. The camera is close-up because we can only see the subject without any background. I think that this emphasizes that the only thing happening is the piano "calling" to the viewer, without any distractions.

The lines of the piano drag my gaze across the picture, but the most prominent part of the picture is the light. The gradual darkening of the light across the keys reflect the changing pitch of the keys as you go down the piano.

What I thought about when looking at this photo was how the leading lines of the piano keys that strech off to darkness symbolize how much music that exists but also the pieces that still have yet to be written that lie in the shadows. In this way it's more of a universal picture that represents music in general and goes beyond being just a piano.

The piano keys create a leading line to the back of the picture, this makes it easy for the eye to move down the piano keys. Along with the leading lines, the light that comes from the closest points and then the keys gradually get darker, this makes the viewer believe there is more out there, never-ending. The fact that there isn't any color in this picture also makes the viewer only concentrate on the piano keys.
